Widelands for MAC
Free, open-source real-time strategy game for Mac. Build a settlement, link it with roads, and play campaigns or multiplayer with five different tribes.
Widelands Overview
Widelands is a free, open-source real-time strategy game inspired by Settlers II. You start as the regent of a small clan with nothing but a headquarters, then grow it into a settlement where every member helps produce wood, food, iron, gold and more. Roads sit at the centre of the economy: carriers walk along them to move goods from one building to the next, so laying out an efficient network is your job. You do not command each person. You order a building and the builders come, or order an attack and your soldiers march.
The game has single-player campaigns that tell the stories of its tribes, a computer opponent, and multiplayer over the internet or LAN. Widelands is made by the Widelands Development Team and released under the GPL version 2 or later, with some assets under Creative Commons licences. Version 1.3.1 is a point release that fixes a severe multiplayer desync. Versions 1.3 and 1.3.1 cannot be combined in a network game, so everyone in a match needs the same one. There are separate Mac disk images for Apple Silicon and Intel, and both need macOS 12 or later.
